Profile
Rated one of New York Magazine's Best Doctors in Psychiatry, Dr. Barbara Bartlik is a recognized expert in integrative medicine, psychiatry, and sexual health. Dr. Bartlik is in private practice in Midtown Manhattan Manhattan and has treated men, women, and couples with a broad range of psychiatric and sexual problems for over 30 years. Some of the conditions she treats are anxiety, depression, OCD, memory problems, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, PMS, PTSD, bipolar disorder, erectile disorder, and problems with sexual desire and arousal. She sees patients both in the office and virtually.
Dr. Bartlik is an editor of the book, Integrative Sexual Health, a volume in the [Dr. Andrew] Weil Integrative Medicine Library (2018). She takes a holistic approach to treatment, emphasizing lifestyle and nutritional strategies, seeking to responsibly minimize the use of pharmaceuticals while optimizing health and well-being. Dr. Bartlik uses sophisticated laboratory tests to seek out underlying sources of inflammation that lead to medical and emotional problems, and addresses them through diet, nutritional supplementation, and the elimination of toxins and other offending factors.
Dr. Bartlik received her M.D. degree with distinction in epidemiology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1981, where she studied neurology with the late Dr. Oliver Sacks. She completed her psychiatry residency and research fellowship at New York University Medical Center / Bellevue Hospital (now NYU Langone Health). She was an associate in the practice of the late sex therapy pioneer, Helen Singer Kaplan, M.D., Ph.D. and treated severely mentally ill patients at Manhattan Psychiatric Center. Dr. Bartlik is certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds additional certifications in integrative medicine from the American Board of Physician Specialties and in sexology from the American Board of Sexology. She is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and is among Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors. Dr. Bartlik is on the voluntary faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital. In her book, Prime Time, Jane Fonda said, "Dr. Barbara Bartlik, sex therapist and psychiatrist, helped me, in her juicy, forthright manner, with ideas for heightening sexuality as we age."

People who take medications may become depleted in essential nutrients that are needed by the brain. As a result, they may suffer from low mood, reduced energy, and sexual problems. An integrative medicine approach can prevent or mitigate these problems and allow for reduced dosages of medications — thus avoiding side effects. Eating health-promoting foods and taking vitamins, minerals, and botanical supplements can positively impact energy level and sexual and mental health.
