Shawn G. Anthony, MD, MBA is a Board-Certified Sports Medicine fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Dr. Anthony is the Associate Chief of the Sports Medicine Service and serves as an Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Anthony received his medical and business degrees from Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School and completed his orthopedic surgery training at the Harvard Orthopedic Residency Program, where he was selected as Chief Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Anthony completed advanced fellowship training in Sports Medicine & Shoulder Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City where he provided medical coverage for professional teams including the New York Knicks NBA team, New York Red Bulls MLS team, as well as New York PSAL football. Dr. Anthony is currently medical director for Broadway performances and a United States Tennis Association (USTA) orthopedic consultant providing courtside medical coverage for the world's top tennis athletes competing at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships.
Dr. Anthony specializes in conditions of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. He has special interest and expertise in:

- Shoulder dislocations / labral tears / shoulder instability

- Knee cartilage lesions (marrow stimulation, osteochondral allografts, PRP injections, stem cell therapies)

- Hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and hip labral tears
- Biologic therapies (PRP, BMAC) and joint preservation
Dr. Anthony has over thirty peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings and holds multiple U.S. Patents on orthopedic technologies. He has authored multiple textbook chapters on orthopedic techniques including ACL reconstruction and arthroscopic surgery for shoulder instability. He is a past Editor-in-Chief of the Orthopedic Journal at Harvard Medical School, and currently serves as a reviewer for the leading orthopedic journal The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. Dr. Anthony is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He was elected in 2018 to the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine Council of Delegates.
