Dr. John S. Michels is a double board-certified Pain Management physician, former first-round NFL draft choice, and Super Bowl champion.
After an injury ended his football career, he took his experience as a patient and used it to drive his passion as a doctor of Interventional Pain Management. Dr. Michels is a renowned expert in Interventional Pain Medicine. His goal is to ensure your pain doesn't stop you from living your best life and following your passions.
Dr. Michels has published multiple articles and book chapters on the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pain. He specializes in using non-opioid, minimally invasive, image guided techniques to treat acute and chronic pain conditions including neck and back pain, sciatica, herniated discs, joint pain, spinal stenosis, spinal compression fractures, migraine headaches, peripheral neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), post-surgical chronic pain, and sports injuries.
Dr. Michels received his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at USC in Los Angeles, where he became a Dean’s List Scholar and member of the medical school admissions committee. He then went to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston to complete a Residency in Diagnostic Radiology and to the University of California, Irvine to complete an ACGME accredited, multidisciplinary fellowship in Interventional Pain Management. He is double board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Pain Medicine.
Dr. Michels is consistently recognized by his peers and patients for his compassionate and high-quality medical care. He is honored to once again be named as one of the Best Doctors in Dallas by D Magazine from 2019 2023 and one of the Texas Super Doctors from 2016 to 2023. He has also received numerous other awards, including the Healthgrades Honor Roll, Vitals Compassionate Doctor, Patients’ Choice, and On-Time Doctor awards.
Dr. Michels is accepting new patients. His office is conveniently located in the North Central Medical Plaza Tower 1 with Valet Parking off U.S. Highway 75 between Park Lane and Walnut Hill Lane.
