Mukaila Raji, M.D. M.S. FACP. is Director of the Division of Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Dr. Raji is the Edgar Gnitzinger Distinguished Professor of Aging, and Tenured Professor of Internal Medicine, Neurology, Nursing, Preventive Medicine and Community Health. Dr. Raji is a recipient of the Sir William Osler Excellence in Clinical Teaching Awards (2006 & 2018), the America’s Top Doctor in Geriatric Medicine Awards (2017 to 2019), the Top Texas Physician Awards (Texas Super Doctors - 2013 to 2019), and the 2002-2006 Geriatric Academic Career Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Raji teaches medical students, residents, and geriatrics fellows and serves as attending faculty on the Acute Care for the Elders Unit, Geriatric Consults, and Geriatric Clinic Service.
Dr. Mukaila Raji attended the medical school at the University of Ife in Nigeria where he graduated in 1987 at the top of his class. He also completed his internal medicine residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, USA, a Geriatric Fellowship at Duke University in Durham, NC, USA, and Master of Science Degree in Pharmacology at the University of Alberta in Canada. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Raji’s areas of research expertise include Alzheimer’s dementia, public health policy, and geriatric pharmacology. He is a Co-Principal Investigator on a NIDA grant and Co-Investigator on several NIH grants. He has published over 100 papers in high impact journals including JAMA, Lancet Oncology, the Journal of Neuroscience, Diabetes Care, and the Journal of American Geriatrics Society.
